3rd Annual Bird 'n' Nature Fest

This year's AVAS Bird 'n' Nature Fest, held under the pavilion at the Pueblo Greenway and Nature Center, 5200 Nature Center Rd. The event is FREE and open to the public. Informational booths, children's activities, and registration for door prizes begin at 9:00 and continue until about 2:00 in the afternoon. Agencies such as the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Environmental groups and nature-related businesses will have displays with knowledgeable people staffing them. Come and enjoy the day under the fall foliage along the river. Bring friends and family!

Late in February, sandhill cranes, the San Luis Valley's oldest visitors, begin their annual trek from south to north, stopping off near the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge to load up on fuel. For millions of years, the sandhills have been spending their "Spring Break" in Colorado's Valley of the Cranes and more recently, wildlife watchers have been drawn to wonder at this phenomenal natural spectacle.

The Front Range Birding Company celebrates International Bird Day with a full day of fun and events. The raptor conservation group HawkQuest will be a featured attraction from 11AM to 1PM as they present a live Bald Eagle, Barn Owl, Peregrine Falcon and Harris Hawk for display. You will be able to get up close and personal with each of these exquisite birds of prey. Their expert trainers will actually fly a Harris Hawk for all to see at 12 Noon.
*Local artists and craftsmen will have an outdoor crafts fair. Local park rangers and the Audubon Society of Greater Denver will man educational booths and offer interesting and intriguing programs for both adults and children. At 2PM the 2nd annual "Dove Race For Youth" will take place as up to 200 white homing pigeons will be released for local charities. These doves will "race" back to their home lofts in Lakewood, CO. Prizes will be given to the sponsors of the winning birds. While the crowd awaits the race results, local bluegrass bands will perform live on stage.
* Come on out to our open house and enjoy all the festivities. Discounts on food and beverages will be available at participating restaurants in the shopping center. It promises to be a blast for the entire family. Held at the Jefferson Village/Kohl's Shopping Center, 9956 W Remington Place, NE corner of Kipling and C-470. 10AM till 5PM
